Brown Widow Spiders
The brown widow spider is a medium sized spider and is a bit smaller in size than its cousin the black widow spider. These spiders can be dark grey, brown, or black in color and have a striped pattern on the legs and topside of their bodies and brown mottling on their bottom sides. Like black widow spiders, brown widows have hourglass-like shaped markings on their abdomens, however rather than red in color, theirs is bright orange or a yellowish color. They can also be identified by their distinctive egg sac with is spiky or tufted in appearance. The webs this spider creates are tangled and messy looking.
-
Brown Widow SpidersBrown widow spiders are found living in tropical and subtropical climates and have established populations throughout Florida. These spiders are also commonly referred to as the brown button spider, grey widow, brown black widow, or house button spiders. They are a venomous spider and are closely related to the more commonly known black widow spider.
-
Brown Recluse SpidersBrown widow spiders and brown recluse are different spiders. Like the brown widow, the brown recluse is considered a dangerous spider and although they are not indigenous to our area, they can be transported here. Once here, due to our tropical climate, they can thrive and will make your home their own.
